    1. When Brodie released his location guide book for Lord of the Rings, it was completely understandable. LOTR, after all, showcased New Zealand's natural beauty and introduced it to the world. The Hobbit, however, doesn't have the same thing going for it - shot, as it was, "in some of New Zealand's most green studios". Ultimately, the issue with this book is the same complaint that has been levelled at The Hobbit films: needs more Hobbit.

    2. I went on a Red Carpet tour of Lord of the Rings locations in New Zealand in 2011 (when the Hobbit movies were being filmed). It was fun to "revisit" some of those locations by reading this book. There are a lot of new locations in the Hobbit as well. Since I doubt I'll ever make it back to New Zealand at least this way I could visit vicariously.

    3. A travel guide for tourists presented as an alongside behind-the-scenes book about The Hobbit film trilogy. Personally, I don't need any inducement to see New Zealand in person, but if, for some reason, you haven't heard of the majestic beauty, this could be the perfect catalyst to travel there.

    4. Nice pictures. Focused on the beauty of New Zealand, but includes some tiny bits not mentioned in the behind-the-scenes extras of the movies. Not enough on the movies for my taste, but someone just interested in NZ or planning a trip might like it.

    5. An obvious cash-in - BUT - some of the photos are pretty great, particularly the scenery/location ones. Couldn't give a fuck about the film.
