    1. First off the sheer awesomeness of the author having a cat shifter resist the urge to play "toss the squeaky" with a mouse. That the shifter in question is female is even better. Very few authors have their shifters "play". They go for the aggressive nature of predators, they make them all alphas (nothing wrong with that, mind you, but there's room for others too), and they rarely let them "let down their hair". So a cat shifter who acknowledges that she really wants to toss a mouse about like y [...]

    2. I liked Lion Heart, Doranna Durgin's second paranormal romance featuring her Sentinels shapeshifters, a bit more than the first book--possibly just because I found the scenario that brought the lead characters together more fun this time around.Joe Ryan is a Sentinel in exile, believed to have been involved with the death of his former partner. But troubling fluctations of power are happening on the mountain where he's living, and so Lyn Maines is sent in to investigate them along with Joe. It d [...]

    3. 3.5 stars ; 3 stars : good, but attraction-despite-SUSPICION is not a favorite trope of mineIf book one reflected the author's love for animals, this one shows her love and respect for the rugged mountains of its setting, and their rich native-cultures history. Joe has a chip on his shoulder after being "convicted" without conclusive evidence, much less any trial, of the murder of his partner in both Sentinel ops and business. Lyn has driving personal need to see Sentinels-gone-dark brought to j [...]

    4. This was a really good book. It pulled me in from the beginning and had me turning pages like the wind. I definitely would like to read more in this series. I loved the characters and the plot. The aspects of shifting and magic were somewhat different and I liked this outlook of it too. Kept me rooted to see what would happen. This had me aggravated, tensed, holding my breath, wanting to Kung fu some bad guy butt, and knock sense into some people. This was definitely and and interactive (in my m [...]

    5. I enjoyed this story and Joe Ryan was a super hero. Strong, honest and willing to do anything to do the right thing. I loved how the story focused on the unity of the universe, how Joe felt it was arragont for sentinels to only have a caucasian understanding of the power of the mountain. It's the kind of discussion that doesn't arise often enough in this kind of genre. On the other hand it took me a while to get attached to Lyn. She was very two-dimensional at the start of the book, but she does [...]

    6. Another great book in this series. I love the world building, the complexity of the main characters, and the fact that the heroine is as courageous as is the hero. The story is entertaining, the plot moves at a good pace with a nice mix of action and introspection, and the use of language is brilliant. This series is very quickly becoming a favourite of mine.
